King
sits on his throne
in a splendid state
with a magnificent habit
crowned with a diadem,
holding a scepter in his hand
and attended by courtiers.

The chief among these
are the chancellor
with counsellors
and secretaries;
lord-marshall
comptroller
cupbearer
taster
treasurer
high chanberlain
and the master of stables.

Subordinate to these are
courtiers
pages
with chamberlains
lackeys
and bodyguards.

King solemnly receives
ambassadors of foreign rulers.

To other places he sends
his vice-regents
deputies
governors, treasurers
and ambassadors
to whom he sends
their new mandates
by couriers.

The fool
makes laughter
by his ludicrous actions.
